These lightning arrestors or their equivalents are highly recommended for protecting submersible motors from commonly occurring high voltage surges which can damage the motor insulation system and cause motor winding failure. (These arrestors will not, as it true of any lightning protection equipment, protect the motor from a direct strike of lightning.)
